Last Saturday, May 31, the most anticipated women’s squash event in Valencia took place: the VIII Valencia Ladies Squash Open. A total of 24 players participated, including several from Girona, Pamplona, and Bilbao, although most of them were from the Valencian Community.
As always, the main goal was to share a friendly day, enjoying closely contested matches at all levels. There were no major surprises: the tournament’s top two seeds, Chantal Pitarch and Linda Svilane, reached the final (unfortunately, the match could not be played, but it is promised to take place soon). However, we were lucky to witness a very close match for third place between our player Nuria Muñoz and Sandra Pérez from Pamplona, where Nuria won 3–2.
But beyond the results, the most important thing was the atmosphere of camaraderie, friendship, and teamwork. Each player received a handmade gift so they could take the “squash bat bat” beyond the court.

At the end of the day, a variety of prizes were raffled off (three high-quality rackets, racket bags, wristbands, and grips). A special thank you goes to Squashpoint.com for securing the “gift of the century”: a Tecnifibre racket signed by the current world number one, the fighting princess Nour El Sherbini.
This prize went to Marina Fernández, niece of María Ángeles and a “new” member of the ladies group, who is progressing rapidly on the court.
The day ended with a dinner, followed by a beach outing the next day. Thank you to all the players for their participation. A special thanks to Janis for coordinating the matches and keeping track of the results during the tournament, and to Adrián Bares for documenting the moments. Here we share some photos.
